6 ways to enjoy cannabis without annoying the neighbors.

Smoking cannabis has become a very popular way to enjoy the plant. It’s the most common way because that’s how it’s been done for years.

How To

Smoking cannabis has become a very popular way to enjoy the plant. It’s the most common way because that’s how it’s been done for years. For good reason! Smoking cannabis gets you where you want to be quickly and without much fuss. That said, while smoking the plant offers some benefits, it does have an important drawback when considering the lingering smell that smoking cannabis can create. For example, most rentals don’t allow smoking cannabis inside the home. While the back deck might be a good option, it can still bother the neighbors (especially in apartments and townhomes). Plus, Alberta winters are cold! Who wants to freeze outside to enjoy their weed? Those who want to use cannabis without smoking it can still enjoy the amazing benefits of the plant! Here’s six alternative methods to smoking cannabis to avoid smell.

Method 1: THC & CBD Vape Cartridges

One of the most convenient ways to get your cannabinoids is by vaping cannabis extracts with a vape cartridge. Vape cartridges are filled with cannabis extracts and screw onto any 510-thread battery. Although the smell is virtually nonexistent. Vape carts come in all kinds of flavours like grape, fruit loops, root beer and more when botanical terpenes are used. If you want a flavour and experience closer to weed itself, you should look for a full spectrum vape. Full spectrum is the closest you can get to the original cannabis flower. Full spectrum vape cartridges are made using a similar process, with the exception of the specific plant’s terpenes being added back in, rather than botanical ones.

Method 2: Dabbing Extracts

Maybe it’s worthwhile to investigate dabbing! Consumers find several advantages to dabbing as a delivery method, primarily in its swift onset, powerful effects, and of course, reduced smell. Extracts are very powerful with a concentrated THC usually at least 4X higher than flower and can easily land you in a couch lock, or “send you on the moon”. It can be a little intimidating to try, but if you’re willing to learn the basics, then it’s no reason why you can’t dab extracts. Dabbing extracts can actually be a healthy alternative to smoking if done correctly.

Do I need any special equipment?

Am I going to light myself on fire if I try this?

Dabbing is usually done with a dab rig — a glass chamber similar to a bong, with a quartz glass banger instead of a bowl. Think of a banger as a miniature bucket that’s going to hold and heat your extracts. Bangers are heated (usually with a blowtorch) until you get your desired temperature to vaporize your extract of choice. Then all you’ve gotta do is drop in your extract, put a carb cap on top, and inhale!

Common types of extracts include shatter, budder, wax, crumble, rosin, resin, and diamonds. We’ll do an in-depth guide to dabbing and put it on our website soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions on it feel free to stop by your nearest Bud Supply and chat with a Budtender. We’re happy to help!

Method 3: Cannabis Edibles

There are lots of different kinds of edibles you can purchase. Some of the edibles you can find in your local cannabis store include chocolates, brownies, gummies, caramels and more.

When you eat an edible, it takes a while for the effects to kick in because your digestive system needs to process what’s in your stomach. You should wait about one hour before making any decisions on how you feel so you know if the edible has working, or if you need a little more for yourself. Edibles work very differently than smoking, but they do give you similar effects that last longer. All without the cannabis smell.

Quick tip: Looking to get more out of your edibles? Try eating a fatty food or drink alongside it! Something like milk, or butter on toast. The THC bonds to the fat cells and makes it easier for you to digest and utilize.

Method 4: Cannabis Beverages

THC is THC, and CBD is CBD whether you eat it, or drink it, the end result is the same. Wait. Did we say drink it? Yep! You can also get your cannabis effects through a delicious beverage. Cannabis drinks are a great way to blend in at a party with alcohol drinkers. For this reason, weed drinks are one of the most discreet & easy ways to get THC or CBD into your system. Plus, the onset time is usually quicker due to some fancy sounding technology called Nanoemulsion. It essentially breaks down the cannabinoid molecules to be smaller so that your body can process them faster. That means you’re feeling the effects sooner! Sometimes within 10 minutes of drinking, rather than the hour and a bit for most edibles. We made a little video about Nanoemulsion on our Instagram. If you’re reading the digital version, you can check it out [HERE].

You can enjoy a variety of delicious and refreshing beverages. The added bonus that they are all currently caffeine free for those who need an afternoon boost without feeling jittery or wired; Choose from infused teas, lemonade, iced tea, sparkling water, sodas, or hoppy beverages — just don’t drink too many because we recommend moderation! There’s even THC/CBD drops that you can add to any drink you’d like. THC and CBD affects everyone differently depending on your metabolism and how your body processes the cannabinoids.

Method 5: Cannabis Oils & Capsules

Cannabis oils are yet another way to enjoy weed without the smell. These oils are made by extracting the cannabinoids from a cannabis plant. They are taken out of the plant with a solvent like CO2. Then it’s mixed with other oils like hemp oil coconut oil, or MCT oil.

So how do you use oils?

The most effective way to take cannabis oil is to drop it under your tongue (sublingually) because it bypasses your digestive system and goes straight into your bloodstream. You can also use cannabis oil like you would an edible or capsule by adding it to food and drinks. Even though the bioavailability (or how much you’ll feel it) of anything ingested is generally a little lower, the trade-off of hiding the oil flavour in food is well worth it for some people.

Just like the quick tip from Method 3, if you’re going to mix the oils in with food, think of fatty foods. Yogurt, peanut butter, or with your cream and sugar coffee. The fat bonds to the cannabinoids and help your body utilize them more efficiently!

Method 6: Topicals

Maybe you want to enjoy the benefits of cannabis without the psychoactive effects?

Cannabis topicals are an excellent way to do just that! They don’t pass through the blood membrane barrier which means you aren’t getting high when using topicals! Topicals will have varied amounts of THC and CBD in them. While we can’t give medical recommendations, we’ve SEEN some of our guests using these products on skin, muscles, and joints for their relief from pain and inflammation.

We carry a wide variety of topical products including lotions, balms, salves, sprays, bath salts, bath bombs and more! All with different scents so you can find what jives with you!

Cannabis Storage

We’ve talked so much about consumption, that we almost forgot the most important point. STORAGE! It’s important to know how to store your weed in a way that keeps it fresh and smell free. Storing your cannabis properly will help keep the potency high and prevent your stash from emitting an odor outside of whatever storage container you choose. Usually, the container your cannabis comes in is not very air tight. That means it’s going to smell up the room AND lose potency.

So what storage is best?

The top ways to store weed that we’ve found are Glass Jars, Smell Proof Bags, Charcoal Lined Cases, and Humidors. Your own personal needs will help you choose which storage option works best for you. Smell proof bags are great for travel, but usually can’t fit as much weed in comparison to a Charcoal Lined Case or Humidor.

If you’re looking for the cheapest option to store weed at home without the smell, we recommend picking up some mason jars. They don’t cost much, and the glass keeps odour from permeating through. There are even more benefits to glass storage, but we can go into those in a different article.
