Dabs, oils, and hash—all of these are popular terms that experienced cannabis users are familiar with. We say “experienced” here because cannabis concentrates require you to level up a little bit before you try them since they’re super potent.

The ever-expanding universe of cannabis products keeps surprising us, and concentrates are no exception. They've been around for a while, and they're here to stay. From hash to shatter and wax, they come in various forms, each with its own specific qualities.

In this blog, we're going to break down the most popular types of concentrates, chat about the differences between solventless and solvent-based ones (don't worry, we'll keep it simple), and point you in the right direction—whether you’re in the North, South, or West— to find cannabis concentrates right here in Lethbridge. Let’s get started.

So What is Cannabis or Marijuana Concentrate?

Cannabis concentrates are potent extracts derived from the cannabis plant, offering a highly concentrated form of cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. These extracts come in various forms, including oils, wax, shatter, and more. Did you know that edibles, like cannabis chocolates, are made using extracted cannabis, too? The options for cannabis concentrates are endless,  and if you’re looking for recreational cannabis concentrates in Lethbridge, stop by any one of our three cannabis shops in Lethbridge North, South, or West to check these options out.

How are Cannabis Concentrates Made?

As mentioned earlier, cannabis concentrates have a rich history, dating back to ancient times. Back in those days, people used various techniques to craft concentrated forms of cannabis. These ancient processes included hand-rubbing resin from the plant, sieving, or pressing the cannabis to create potent products like hashish.

Fast forward to now with weed being legal, cannabis concentrates in Lethbridge have changed a lot. We've witnessed significant changes in how cannabis concentrates are made—mostly due to the advancement of technology, but the essence remains the same. Concentrates are made through an extraction process—either using solvent or solventless methods.

What is the Difference Between Solvent-based and Solventless Concentrates?

In solvent-based concentrates, chemicals like butane, CO2, or ethanol are used to extract the cannabinoids from the cannabis. These solvents are super effective at getting everything out. After the extraction, the concentrates will have to be purified to ensure that they’re safe for consumption.

Solventless concentrates don't use any chemicals or solvents to extract the cannabinoids. Instead, they use mechanical methods, like pressing or sifting, to get those cannabinoids out. It's like a more natural way of doing it. Hashish is generally the most popular solventless concentrate.

Something to keep in mind is also the difference between Rosin and Live Resin. These are two very similar sounding products, but are completely different. They’re easy to get confused with, but Live Resin is a solvent cannabis concentrate made from flash-frozen, fresh plant material, while rosin is a solventless concentrate produced by applying heat and pressure to cannabis flower or hash.

Are Cannabis Concentrates Strong?

Definitely. Cannabis concentrates are far more potent than dried flower, for example. Since the extraction process is pulling all the cannabinoids, there is a higher concentration of THC and CBD. There might be other cannabinoids added into it as well, but it depends on the product. To put things in perspective, dried flower has an average percentage of 20%-30% THC content, whereas cannabis concentrates can be in the 70%-80% (or sometimes even higher!) So, we advise that you take it slow if you are new to cannabis concentrates.

Popular Cannabis Concentrates in Lethbridge

If you’re looking for budget-friendly cannabis concentrate in Lethbridge, we have three locations in Lethbridge to serve you – North, South, or West, all have something for you at Bridge Bud Supply. Take a look below at some of the most popular forms of cannabis concentrates, and some of our recommendations for next time you’re in Lethbridge.

Hashish

Hashish or Hash is one of the oldest and most traditional forms of cannabis concentrate. It's made by compressing trichomes (resin glands) into a solid form. Hash can vary in texture and colour and is often consumed by smoking or vaporising. Something that we’ve noticed at our cannabis shop is that many of our customers looking for hash are folks who have been enjoying it for a while. They tend to have specific tastes, often wanting the same kind of hash they used to enjoy back in the day when they smoked it on hot knives.

There are three main groups of hash enthusiasts we've noticed. Some are after a dark, sticky "biker hash" look, others prefer resin-packed temple balls, and then there are those who like a light, pressed blonde hash. We make sure to offer options in each category to cater to these different preferences, which are available at our Lethbridge South location.

Shatter

Shatter is known for its glass-like, brittle texture. It's a type of butane hash oil (BHO) and is highly concentrated, containing extremely high levels of THC. Shatter can be vaporised, dabbed, or even added to edibles. If shatter is up your ally, try the Black Cherry Punch x Jack Herer Shatter by Endgame – available at our Lethbridge North location.

Wax

Cannabis wax is a sticky, gooey concentrate that's rich in cannabinoids. It's created through a similar process as shatter but results in a waxier texture. Wax is often dabbed. Our best selling wax in Lethbridge West is the White Knight Sugar Wax by CannMarket Inc.

Live Resin

Live resin is popular for its potent terpene profile. It's made from flash-frozen cannabis plants, preserving the terpenes and cannabinoids at their peak. Our favourite live resin product is the DJ Melon Live Resin Vape Cartridge by Greybeard and Thrive Cannabis in Lethbridge North.

Rosin

Rosin is created without the use of solvents. It's made by applying heat and pressure to cannabis flower or hash, squeezing out the essential oils. The Gluerangutan by Good Buds is a top shelf item and it’s worth picking up next time you’re in Lethbridge South.
